Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of opportunity.
Observed each year on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. Today, it is a time for reflection, community, celebration, and honoring the generations who continued pushing forward despite immense obstacles.
At MatchaBrand, we're not here to pretend matcha has some deep historical connection to Juneteenth. It doesn't.
What we do believe
Juneteenth invites us to think about something universal: the freedom to build a life that reflects your own values, priorities, and vision for the future.
For many people, that includes being intentional about how they spend their time, where they put their energy, and what habits help them show up as their best selves.
Sometimes that starts with something as simple as a morning ritual.
The small things
They matter more than we often realize. A walk before work. Time with family. A workout. A conversation with a friend. A quiet moment before the day begins. These routines may seem ordinary, but they're often the building blocks of a life lived with purpose.
That's one of the reasons we love matcha.
Not because it's trendy.
Not because it's magical.
Because it creates a moment.
A pause.
A chance to start the day with intention.
For generations, communities have gathered around food and drink as a way to connect, celebrate, and create culture. Whether it's sharing a meal, hosting a cookout, gathering at a family reunion, or simply sitting together and talking, these traditions become part of who we are.
Juneteenth celebrations are filled with those moments. Families come together. Friends reconnect. Communities celebrate their history while looking toward the future.
Preparing to launch
As we get closer to the hard launch of MatchaBrand, we're thinking a lot about the kinds of traditions we want to help create. Not rigid rituals or complicated routines, but simple moments that fit naturally into real life.
A matcha before a morning workout.
A latte while planning your next big idea.
A quiet cup before a busy day.
A recipe shared with friends.
The best traditions are the ones that make life a little better and bring people together.
This Juneteenth, we're reflecting on the values of resilience, progress, community, and opportunity. We're grateful for the chance to build something we believe in, and we're excited to share it with you soon.
However you're celebrating, we hope you find time to connect with the people who matter most, honor the history that brought us here, and make space for the traditions that move you forward.
Happy Juneteenth from all of us at MatchaBrand.
