Matcha Smoothie Recipe

Matcha Smoothie Recipe
šŸµ MatchaBrand is coming soon: fresh blends, sweet vibes, more to say soon. This recipe is ready to make today.

The matcha smoothie has earned its reputation.

You get the caffeine and L-theanine from matcha, the nutrients from real fruit and greens, and a flavor combination that's a lot better than it sounds on paper.

Here's a base recipe plus a few variations. None of them require you to choke something down. They all taste good.

The Base Recipe (Serves 1)

  • 1 tsp Naka (MatchaBrand Barista Blend) matcha
  • 1 frozen banana (frozen = creamier texture)
  • 1 cup oat milk or almond milk
  • 1 handful baby spinach (optional but barely noticeable in flavor)
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 4–6 ice cubes

Method

Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend on high until smooth and creamy. The frozen banana is what gives this a thick, almost milkshake-like consistency. Taste and adjust sweetener. The matcha flavor is present but softened by the banana and milk. Earthy and slightly sweet, with a vivid green color.

Why Frozen Banana

Frozen banana does two things: adds natural sweetness and creates a creamy, gelato-like base without adding dairy or thickeners. Fresh banana works but makes a thinner smoothie. Peel and freeze ripe bananas in chunks. Keep them in a freezer bag.

The Spinach Situation

A handful of spinach adds iron, folate, and fiber, and you genuinely cannot taste it when it's blended with banana and matcha. The color gets greener, the flavor does not become green-tasting. Try it once.

Matcha Protein Smoothie

Add 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (whey or plant-based). This turns the smoothie into a solid post-workout meal. Increase the milk slightly to accommodate the protein powder's thickness.

Tropical Matcha Smoothie

Replace banana with 1 cup frozen mango. Add 1/4 cup frozen pineapple. Use coconut milk instead of oat milk. The tropical fruit takes the matcha in a brighter, more acidic direction. Really good for summer.

Why Naka for Smoothies

Naka has a bolder flavor profile built to hold up in milk-based drinks. In a smoothie, the matcha is competing with fruit and other flavors. Naka stays present in a way that ceremonial grade might not. You'll taste the matcha. You'll get the caffeine and L-theanine.

Breakfast, post-workout, or afternoon snack. The matcha smoothie is pulling real work. And soon, it'll be pulling that work with Naka, MatchaBrand's Barista Blend.
