You've seen the iced matcha latte everywhere.
The vivid green poured over ice with the milk swirling in. It looks good because it is good, and it's honestly one of the easiest drinks to make at home once you know the two-step method.
Cold, smooth, and ready in under 3 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp Naka (MatchaBrand Barista Blend) matcha
- 2 oz hot water (175°F, not boiling)
- 8 oz cold oat milk (or any milk you prefer)
- Sweetener to taste
- A full glass of ice
- Matcha whisk or frother
Step 1: Make the Concentrate
Always start with hot or warm water even for iced drinks. Cold water doesn't dissolve matcha properly and you end up with clumps and a dull flavor.
Sift 1 tsp matcha into a small cup or bowl. Add 2 oz of hot (not boiling) water. Whisk in a W or M shape until fully dissolved and slightly frothy. This is your concentrate.
Step 2: Build the Drink
Fill your glass with ice. Pour the matcha concentrate directly over the ice. Pour your cold milk over the top.
For the layered look, pour the milk slowly over a spoon held just above the surface of the drink. Add sweetener to the concentrate before the milk if you want it to distribute evenly.
The Layered Look
The iconic swirled iced matcha latte comes from the density difference between the matcha concentrate and cold milk. Pour slowly and it holds. Stir once and it becomes the uniform vivid green people think of when they picture this drink.
Sweetener Options
Honey adds a floral note that works really well with matcha. Vanilla syrup makes it taste more like a dessert drink. Brown sugar syrup is earthy and rich, and pairs incredibly well with the grassy notes in matcha. Agave dissolves cleanly in cold drinks better than honey.
Why the Barista Blend
Naka, MatchaBrand's Barista Blend, is designed with a bolder flavor profile that holds up when diluted with milk and ice. It won't disappear into your oat milk. It stays bright, stays flavorful, and gives you the green color you're looking for.
